Mumbai: BMC team reaches Rana couple’s Khar flat, unable to conduct inspection – Times of India

MUMBAI: Two days after serving an inspection notice, a team from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) H west ward on Wednesday reached the Khar flat of Amravati MP Navneet Rana and her husband MLA Ravi Rana. This is the same flat from where the couple had been arrested on April 23 last month.
However, the civic body was unable to inspect the premises as they stated that there was no one in the house. The couple was granted bail over the Hanuman Chalisa row on Thursday itself.
A senior civic official said that they would now paste a notice outside their premise intimating the Ranas that they had visited but were unable to inspect. “We will once again go for an inspection and if we yet are unable to find anyone in the home, we would decide on the further course of action. There are violations in the structure pertaining to FSI and also illegal alterations which have been brought to our notice. Based on the same our team has been acting,” said the official.
It is also learned that while there is no direct complaint pertaining to the Ranas home but there are complaints of the floor below and above their above and BMC officials said that they suspect that there could have been identical violations in their flat too.
The BMC notice served by the designated officer of H west ward on May 2, has not been addressed to them directly but instead to the owner/occupier of the 8th floor flat of Lavie building in Khar west. The notice states, “I hereby give you notice that, I shall, on May 4, 2022 or thereafter anytime, pursuant to provision of the last named section, enter with assistants or workmen into or upon the premises no. 8th Floor, Lavie, Plot No-412, CTS NO-E/249, 14th Road, Khar west, Mumbai-52…to inspect the said premises, taking photos and measurements.”
Locals said that in the 1990’s the plot where Lavie building now stands would be a bungalow from where a music channel would operate. However, a few years later the bungalow was demolished and make way for the swanky highrise. Officials said that the Ranas own one flat in the building which is spread across the eight floor.
