MUMBAI: A 24-year-old man stole dry fruits, besides cash, collectively worth Rs 3.8 lakh after breaking into a provision store at Kandivali West recently.
However, the CCTVs captured his getaway vehicle– an autorickshaw– which helped the police in locating him.
The theft was reported at a provision store located on Kandivali’s Gosalia Road on April 19.
Sunil Bhanushali, the storeowner, later complained to the police that the shutters at the entrance to the shop were broken and Rs 45,000 in cash was stolen from a wooden table drawer. The thief also pocketed five packets of dry fruits before fleeing.
After going through the CCTV footage, cops tracked down the autorickshaw to Anand Nagar in Jogeshwari West.
They kept a watch on the vehicle for two days until the accused, Karim Khan, stepped out to use it.
Karim, a resident of the same neighbourhood, is an auto driver by profession. He was arrested on April 25. In the past, he had been booked by the Nirmal Nagar and Dahisar police.
