MUMBAI: Nodal agencies have caught more than 24 persons in controlled delivery traps, where officials pose as postmen and nab those who take deliveries of contraband, in the past six months.
Customs, Narcotics Control Bureau and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence are keeping a strict vigilance on suspected parcels and have been catching people in traps.
The special investigations and intelligence branch of Customs arrested a Kolkata resident, Udit Media (24), when he came to take delivery of 455gm of marijuana/ganja from the US. Officials said onthe basis of specific intelligence SIIB officials intercepted a suspected parcel whose consignee address was Ajay Jajodia at Military Road in Andheri.
The officials met the postmaster at Chakala MIDC and informed him about the controlled delivery operation and a postwoman called the consignee and told him to come to collect the parcel with his KYC details and pay the Customs duty. On Wednesday, when he walked in with the KYC of Ajay Jajodia, the officials arrested him. The man was later identified as Media, who was arrested under NDPS Act.
