MUMBAI: The BEST on Thursday launched a scheme to provide good quality food to its employees in the canteen at bus depots. The food is being provided by “Akshaya Chaitanya” — an initiative of the Hare Krishna movement which is a non-profit activity.
“The Akshaya Chaitanya project serves over 20,000 people across the city everyday,” said BEST general manager Lokesh Chandra who launched the project at Colaba bus depot.
“For every meal by a BEST employee, part of the money goes for funding of free food for the underprivileged at the hospitals, slum areas, and municipal schools. It is a win-win program for the BEST who will gain by way of introducing good food and the underprivileged will gain by the free food from the project,” he added.
