As several countries in Europe and Asia witness a fresh surge in Covid-19 cases, the state’s public health department has asked districts to increase surveillance and warned that the situation in Maharashtra could change dramatically over the next few weeks unless all systems remain alert.
Additional chief secretary Dr Pradeep Vyas has asked districts to take measures to avoid crowding, stress upon appropriate masking, proactively identify clusters and step up surveillance of severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) and Influenza-like illnesses (ILI). In the letter issued on Thursday, he also asked districts to push up vaccination coverage as Maharashtra was much behind the national average.
