The portion of the engine cowling — the removable, outer covering of an engine — was found on the side of a runway, said a source. The cowl protects the engine from foreign particles and is also used to reduce drag and cool the engine. “The cowling, coloured red, appeared to be from the ATR aircraft operating Alliance Air Mumbai-Bhuj flight 9I-625, which had taken off minutes before,” said a source.
