Mumbai: Heartwarming! Leopard’s playful bonding with her cubs feared abandoned wins heart – Times Now

Mumbai: A heartwarming incident took place in Maharashtra’s Mumbai where a leopard cub lounging in a desolate godown in Powai was initially feared abandoned. 

The footage cameras which were kept to keep a tab on the cabs show that the cub was lying there all day while its mother went out hunting and later returns to nurse it. It was realized that the mother had kept the cub at the godown for safekeeping while she was out hunting.

Wildlife team set for rescue

A wildlife team was set out to initially rescue the abandoned cub who was found sitting at the NITIE campus godown. According to the Times of India report, the wildlife warden Pawan Sharma added that “But, after a distant assessment, we figured that the cub was healthy and well-tended to.”

As soon as they realised this, they abandoned the thought that the cub was abandoned.

Cameras set up

In order to keep a tab on the young cat, the rescue teams had also installed cameras at the spot. The footage displayed that the mother paid a visit to the cubs regularly to keep a check on them.

A range forest officer added that they were mighty relieved after looking at the visuals. After few hours, the mother leopard brought another cub and left both of them at a safe place.

The mother in order to keep her kid’s safe moves from one spot to another. They generally camp at a spot for few days and move to the next, as per typical feline behavior.

Labourers spotted the cubs

As per the officials, the labourers at the NITIE campus heard roars of animals and thought to be that of kittens. However, to their surprise, they spotted a leopard cub. Also, after assessing the visuals, forest officials also confirmed that it was a leopard cub.

Forest officials team along with volunteers from Wildlife Welfare Association, Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare and wildlife researchers were monitoring them. The cubs were playfully bonding with their mother.

The official also added that the leopard along with her kids left the spot two days ago. Sharma added “This case of wildlife taking recourse in a concrete place is unusual. Thankfully, no human intervention was needed at all,” as quoted by TOI.
