Mumbai once again recorded more than 5000 new coronavirus cases in a single day after 5,394 persons tested positive for the infection on Wednesday. The total caseload of the city now stands at 4,14,714, which includes 3.5 lakh recoveries and 51,411 active cases. A total of 11,686 persons have succumbed to the virus till date.Reducing the COVID test rates further, the Maharashtra government announced that the rates of RT-PCR tests have been slashed to Rs 500 from Rs 1,000.In other news, the Bombay HC on Wednesday questioned former CP Param Bir Singh as to why did he not file an FIR against Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and his malpractices before approaching the court. Opposition leader Devendra Fadnavis too took a swipe at the state government panel formed to probe the allegations against Deshmukh and called it an ‘eyewash’.Meanwhile, The Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU), headed by Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Vaze before his arrest by the NIA earlier this month, has now got a new chief in police inspector Milind Kathe.
