PIL says along with gyms, open yoga centres too; Bombay HC to hear next week – Times of India

MUMBAI: Bombay high court on Tuesday said it would hear after a week a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by a proprietor of a gymnasium and health club seeking that apart from gyms, state should open yoga studios as well.
The petitioner’s counsel said after his petition was filed, the state announced it was opening gyms but as they await the notification, he said yoga studios also should be open by following the SOPs laid down by the Central Ayush and health ministry.
Petitioner Lalit Dharmani’s counsel Mayur Khandeparkar with advocate Tushar Gujjar said apart from the opening of gymnasiums, many health clubs also have yoga studios attached and there are many independent yoga institutes centres which ought to be opened too now as it is seven months in to the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown which is gradually being lifted across the country.
A bench of chief justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Girish Kulkarni said they would postpone the hearing by a week.
The lockdown has been in place since March and fitness sector was also shut down.In Maharashtra the government had on the weekend said that fitness centres will reopen from Dussehra.
