Maharashtra Coronavirus News Live Updates: Maharashtra’s COVID-19 tally on Friday increased to 15,76,062 with 11,447 new cases coming to light, said a state health official. The state also reported 306 fatalities during the day, taking death toll to 41,502, he said.
The Mumbai division, which consists of Mumbai city and satellite towns, reported 3,630 new cases, raising the total count to 5,46,839. A total of 17,288 people have died so far in the region, the official said. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has allowed restaurants, bars, hotels and food courts to remain open from 7 am to 11.30 pm from Friday under the Maharashtra government’s ‘Mission Begin Again’. Markets and other shops will be permitted to function from 7 am to 9.30 pm.
Meanwhile, Thane is set to get its first post-Covid Care Centre next week. The centre, which will open in Majiwada, will have the capacity to monitor the recovery of 400 patients who have been discharged after recovering from Covid-19.

The Shiv Sena on Thursday launched a scathing attack on Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari who recently wrote to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray demanding the immediate reopening places of worship. In an unusually worded official letter, the Governor had mockingly asked if the Sena leader had “suddenly turned secular.”
According to an editorial published in the party mouthpiece Saamana, the BJP has been “exposed” on this issue. It said that the Maharashtra Governor should be recalled if Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah wish to preserve the “prestige” of Raj Bhavan. It further said restaurants have opened with strict Covid safety protocol, but reopening temples will see crowding.
If the BJP wants temples to reopen, then there should be a national policy, it said, adding that several important temples in the country are closed. “Even the gods must be ringing the temple bells in happiness,” it said. “If the sound of ringing bells has reached Modi and Shah, then they will recall the Governor to preserve the prestige of Raj Bhavan,” the Saamana editorial said.
