Mumbai: A fire broke out at the iconic Mahatma Phule Market (Crawford Market) on Thursday evening. There are no reports of any injury or casualty as of yet.
Fire brigade sources said that the Byculla control room was alerted at around 6.15 pm about the fire at some cloth shops in the sprawling market area in South Mumbai.
Fire chief Prabhat Rahangdale said that the fire has been confined to the loft of 2-3 galas. “Breaking of shutters of adjacent galas are in progress to check the spread of fire,” he said.

Sources said that 6 fire tenders and 5 water tankers from the nearby Indira Docks, Mandvi and Byculla fire stations have been rushed to the place. There has been no reports of any injury or casualty received so far.
