Navi Mumbai: Local gangster disguises himself as woman to go unnoticed after crime; nabbed – Times Now

Mumbai: Criminals are resorting to new ways and techniques to dupe people in large. In another shocking case reported from Navi Mumbai, a local gangster, who was on the run for multiple crimes was nabbed after over three kilometers chase. 

The criminal,  identified as Manikandan alias Shambhu Kuttan disguised himself as a woman after the crime. A resident of Juhu Gaon in Navi Mumbai, he was wanted in more than 23 cases in Mumbai.

Criminal changed his mobile number regularly

As per the police, they were looking out for him since April 8 after the criminal case was registered against him for the theft case. The criminal kept changing his mobile number every 15 days thus, it became quite difficult for the police team to track him down.

Sub-inspector Sandeep Rahane however received a tip-off about the gangster residing in Vashi.

Following this, the Vashi police were informed about him and the police laid a trap to nab him at the earliest. Unfortunately, his informers told him about the police search before the team reached the spot.

Accused chased for over three km

In a bid to go unnoticed, Manikandan dressed as a woman and jumped off the roof of his building to avoid arrest. However, the police team was aware of his move of disguising himself as a woman and kept a close watch on him. After over three km of the chase, he landed in police custody.

Sub-inspector Dattaray Malvekar added, “After committing the crime Manikandan would return to the scene or nearby area dressed as a woman or a sadhu or any of the disguises to meet his informer or keep a watch on the police, as quoted by the Hindustan Times.

The police are further interrogating the case in order to know about his other disguises and crimes if any.

Prakash Chougule, the senior police inspector said that the gangster has been booked for threatening, assault, kidnapping, and attempt to murder in police stations across the city. Several crimes were registered against him and he was externed from Mumbai twice since 2007.
