Drunk cop ‘molests’ mom-to-be in road rage case in Navi Mumbai, suspended – Indiatimes.com

NAVI MUMBAI: A policeman has been booked for allegedly ‘molesting’ a pregnant woman and manhandling her in a road rage incident that took place at Kharghar on Tuesday evening. The cop was drunk while driving, the police said, adding that he has been suspended.
The 26-year-old complainant was on a bike with her husband when the cop’s car grazed their two-wheeler near an under-construction Metro bridge around 7 pm. Her complaint states that her husband lost balance for a while, but controlled the bike. He yelled at the car driver who revved up. The biker gave chase and waylaid the car a distance away.
An argument took place between the accused cop, Dinesh Mahajan (46), and the biker. The car driver claimed he was a “crime branch officer” and placed a ‘police’ placard on the dashboard, the complaint states. Police officials said this is untrue; he is of constable rank.
The pregnant woman’s complaint states that, during the argument, the car driver grabbed her hand and pushed her aside. A crowd gathered at the spot and subsequently, the police reached there and led both parties to Kharghar police station.
A medical test done on the constable confirmed that he was under the influence of alcohol, said a police officer. As the pregnant woman said she had been assaulted by the car driver, she was taken for a medical test.
Constable Dinesh Mahajan has been suspended, deputy commissioner of police Sanjay Patil confirmed late evening. Deputy commissioner of police Pankaj Dahane said that the constable has not been arrested.
