Mumbai: Passenger tries to open emergency door of mid-air flight, booked – Times Now

The airport police filed a case against the flyer after a complaint by a senior cabin crew of the IndiGo 6E-5274 flight.

“A passenger travelling on a flight from Nagpur to Mumbai, allegedly tried to remove the cover of the emergency exit while the aircraft was in the air and on approach for landing. The crew on board alerted the captain and the passenger was appropriately cautioned,” the Indigo officials told media.

The incident took place at around 12:35 pm on January 24. When the aircraft was trying to land, the flight crew noticed that the indicator of the emergency window was active. They rushed to the seat and found that the cover of the handle of the emergency door was removed by the passenger.

The cabin crew took the matter to the flight captain, who reported the incident to the airport police.

A case has been registered under section 336 of the IPC for acts endangering the life or personal safety of others and section 23(1)(b) of the 1937 Aircraft Rules (Assault and other acts endangering safety or jeopardising good order and discipline).

The incident happened just days after the reports alleging that the BJP MP Tejasvi Surya accidentally ‘opened’ the emergency exit of a Chennai-Tiruchirappalli IndiGo flight. The airline released a statement earlier this month confirming the incident, however, it did not name anyone in its statement.

Opening or trying to open the emergency exit of flights unnecessarily can lead to the passenger ending up in the no-fly list for a specific period for ‘unruly’ behaviour, and for putting at risk the lives of all passengers on board.
