NAGPUR: The state assembly on Wednesday condemned statements by Karnataka ministers about making Mumbai a Union territory, reports Vaibhav Ganjapure. Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis made an announcement on the issue after leader of opposition Ajit Pawar pointed out that such remarks were coming from the ministers of the neighbouring state.
After Uddhav Thackeray sought UT status for Belagavi, Karnataka law minister J C Madhuswamy had said Mumbai qualified to be a UT considering its cosmopolitan population. MLAs said statements were made by Karnataka minister CN Ashwatha Narayan and former deputy CM Laxman Savadi.
Fadnavis said he would write to Amit Shah about violation of the terms agreed between the CMs of both states. “It was agreed that no side would make any new claims, till the Supreme Court pronounced its verdict,” he said.
