Mumbai Maharashtra News Today Live Updates, September 21, 2022: Observing that their conduct was “suspicious”, a special court in Mumbai has directed that eight police personnel will face charges of murder in the 2014 custodial death case of 25-year-old Agnelo Valdaris. In April 2014, Valdaris and three others, including a minor boy, were apprehended by the Wadala Government Railway Police (GRP) in a theft case. The police claimed that Valdaris was killed after colliding with a train while trying to escape from custody on April 18, 2014. His co-accused, who were in custody of the Wadala GRP, had told the police that they had been physically and sexually assaulted by the police.

In other news, the Eknath Shinde-led government is likely to clear a proposal granting 20-day casual leave to policemen to reduce their stress levels. Currently, officers get only 12 casual leaves. This was first proposed by former DGP Sanjay Pandey, who is now behind bars in an ED case. Meanwhile, the move has taken many by surprise as the BJP was always at loggerheads with Pandey. The matter will come up in the state Cabinet meeting scheduled to be held on Wednesday afternoon.

The Maharashtra state cabinet is all set to clear a proposal for the redevelopment of Dharavi Wednesday. Dharavi is the largest slum in Mumbai and various attempts to redevelop it have failed in the past or did not take off. However, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is very keen that the proposal gets clearance this time.
