Mumbai: Two private detectives among three held for theft at Lokhandwala flat – Times of India

MUMBAI: Three people, including two private detectives, were arrested within 48 hours after they broke into the fourth-floor flat of a residential building at Lokhandwala in Andheri (West) and made away with cash and gold ornaments amounting to Rs 11.12 lakh at midnight on July 14.
Acting on a tip-off received, the Oshiwara police nabbed the accused from Borivali on July 17, and recovered the entire stolen property from the trio–Pritesh Manjrekar (37), Rohit Korde (37), and Rohit Hegde (43).
The trio does not have a proper job and planned to commit theft to earn a fast income. They easily managed to escape from getting caught by anyone in the building, said the police.
The trio committed the break-in after Pooja Vishwas (24) residing at the Guru Darshan building along with her friend went out for dinner at around 10pm on July 14. After Vishwas left her flat, the trio entered the building pretending as visitors and went searching for a locked room.
“Two of them claimed to be employed as private detectives. There are no past theft records that are registered against the trio. Over dozens of closed-circuit television (CCTV) grabs helped the police team led by inspector Sachin Jadhavar, assistant inspector Sandip Patil, and detection staff–to identify the trio which further led to their arrest,” said Oshiwara police senior inspector Manohar Dhanwade.
Vishwas observed the valuables missing when she returned home around 1 am on July 15 and noticed the entire flat ransacked. In the complaint, Vishwas said, “I noticed the door partially ajar when I returned home. I found household materials ransacked. The cupboard was found open. Gold ornaments, high-end mobiles, high-end watches, and Rs 4.84 lakh cash stolen.”
