After Delhi, bulldozer rolls in Mumbai: Action on around 200 unauthorized huts in Govandi – India Today

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) took an eviction action on 215 unauthorized huts built on private vacant land in the Govandi area, Mumbai, on Tuesday.

The corporation had received a complaint that a large number of unauthorized huts were built on private vacant land at Deonar village, Patilwadi, Govandi, Mumbai.

With immediate notice, eviction action was taken against the unauthorized huts by the Assistant Commissioner of ‘M / East’, Mahendra Ubale.

The notice holders had filed a suit in the Bombay High Court seeking protection against the eviction of unauthorized slum dwellers. However, due to the effective argument of the BMC, the HC did not issue a stay order and dismissed the petition of the notice holders.

The final order was passed by the corporation on April 30, 2022, to the notice holders and on May 10, eviction action was taken with the help of 20 workers.

Police security was provided by the Govandi police station.
