Mumbai: Cop rushes to woman’s aid, is attacked – Times of India

MUMBAI: A policeman on bandobast duty was left injured when he tried to save a woman from her alleged attacker at Wadala on Wednesday morning. The 25-year-old was on her way to work when the accused, Anil Babar (31), slashed her with a knife on the neck.
The police said that Babar, who was stalking the woman, grabbed her hand mid-street. As she tried to free herself, he attacked her due to which the woman started to scream.
Constable Mayur Patil (35), who was at the spot, rushed to her rescue. As the cop chased Babar, he allegedly attacked the policeman on the right hand with the knife. Patil had to undergo surgery. The woman sustained minor injuries, the police said.
Babar had proposed marriage, but the woman, had spurned him. The police said that he planned to kill her if she rejected his proposal now.
Joint commissioner of police (law & order) Vishwas Nangre-Patil applauded the alacrity shown by Patil. “He showed presence of mind to save a life without caring for his own,” said the senior officer.
