Mumbai: BEST union to go on a protest march for wet lease drivers – Times of India

MUMBAI: A section of BEST’s wet lease drivers, who held commuters to ransom by going on a flash strike on two separate days recently, now plan to take a peaceful morcha to Wadala bus depot on May 6 under the banner of BEST workers’ union.
The union has threatened agitations and strike in future if demands are not met.
Union leader Shashank Rao said that the primary demand of these drivers is that they be given salaries and facilities such as free bus passes at par with the full time drivers of BEST undertaking.
“Under the laws for contract workers, it is mentioned that in cases where the workman employed by the contractor performs the same work as those directly employed, the wage rates, holidays, hours of work, and other conditions of service should be at par,” he said.
A senior BEST official said these were private company employees and it was not possible to bring them at par.
