Shift Rakesh Wadhawan back to KEM from private hospital, says Bombay high court – Times of India

MUMBAI: Based on the statement of a private hospital, the Bombay high court on Thursday directed that DHFL promoter Rakesh Wadhawan, 69, be shifted to the civic-run KEM Hospital, where a decision could be taken on whether he can be sent back to jail.
The civic hospital has to tell the HC on April 8 when Wadhawan, a key accused in the Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative (PMC) Bank case, can be shifted back to jail, ordered Justice Anuja Prabhudessai.
The Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital on Thursday filed an affidavit saying Wadhawan “has successfully undergone the procedure” for which he was shifted there. The HC had on February 2, 2022, permitted Wadhawan to be shifted to undergo a bypass surgery at his own expense and a six-week stay. Wadhawan had applied for bail. On March 17, the HC had extended his stay by two weeks.
ED counsel H S Venegaonkar pointed out that the hospital’s affidavit cleared Wadhawan’s return to KEM.
In August 2020, the HC had allowed Wadhawan to be shifted to the civic hospital for endoscopy or colonoscopy. He and his son are facing alleged money laundering charges and he had approached the HC to be shifted to a private hospital for multiple ailments.
