Mumbai News Highlights: A special court has sent Iqbal Kaskar, brother of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim, to the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) custody till February 24 in connection with the money laundering case registered against Dawood and his aides. The ED on Friday took underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s brother Iqbal Kaskar into custody from Thane jail. Earlier this week, a court had issued a production warrant against Kaskar following an application from the ED seeking permission to question him.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government Friday appointed Anti-Corruption Bureau chief Rajnish Seth as the new director general of police. The government’s hand was forced after the Bombay High Court pulled it up last week for “favouring” acting DGP Sanjay Pandey “out of its way” and asked it to decide on the new DGP by February 21.

Continuing with the downward spiral of novel Covid-19 cases, Mumbai on Friday reported 202 new Covid-19 cases, taking the tally to 10,55,193. However, the city witnessed one virus-related fatality after a gap of three days, taking the toll to 16,686, a civic official said.
