How Metro will change the way Mumbai travels – Times of India

Mumbai may be a city of the future, but it sure doesn’t move like one. If the mark of any great city is its metro line network then it doesn’t even feature as one. World over, the metro is the lifeline of a city. For instance, London got its metro in 1863; New York in 1904; Singapore, which claimed independence much after India, started the Mass Rapid Transit Metro network in 1987. But India has been slow on this to begin with. While Kolkata got its first metro in 1985, Delhi started in 2002. Two years later, a master plan for the Mumbai metro was prepared — but today it’s been 17 years since the city has seen any significant progress on the project.
