Mumbai Live News: Four more cases of the new variant Omicron have been detected in Maharashtra, of which two are from Osmanabad and one each from Mumbai and Buldhana. This takes the total tally of Omicron cases in the state to 32, out of which 25 patients have been discharged after negative RT-PCR test. With growing concern over the new variant Omicron, the Centre wrote to the state about a rise in weekly Covid-19 caseload between November 26 and December 9. However, the public health officers attribute it to the surge in daily testing under the surveillance programme of Omicron.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai Police extended till December end its order of registering FIRs against any person who does not follow Covid-19 appropriate behaviour as mentioned in the November 27 order issued by the state, allowing only fully-vaccinated people in public places like shops, malls and cinema halls among others.
The BMC, meanwhile, is tracing close contacts of those who attended Karan Johar’s party on December 8. Kareena Kapoor who attended the party tested positive and so did her house help. Apart from Kareena, actor Amrita Arora, actor Sohail Khan’s wife Seema Khan and actor Sanjay Kapoor’s wife Maheep Kapoor have also tested positive after attending the party. While Seema has been hospitalised, the other three are in home isolation. An official said that earlier, Seema’s son and sister had tested positive.
