Metro-3 line trial runs slated for 2022; to be held at Marol-Maroshi underground track – Times of India

MUMBAI: Trial runs of prototype rakes for the underground Metro 3 corridor (Colaba-Bandra-Seepz) are being planned for early next year. Chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday approved Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation’s test run proposal.
The trial runs of the Colaba-Seepz Metro rail line 3 in Mumbai will be held underground at Marol-Maroshi, which is outside the Aarey green belt.
Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation MD Ranjit Singh Deol said, “The permission sought by the state government provides great impetus to the project. With 97% of tunnelling and about 70% civil work completed, start of technical trials of the prototype train is another milestone on the project. Work to set up a temporary facility will begin shortly and may take about two-and-a-half months to be completed. Field trials will start immediately after the trains arrive.”
The 33.5-km-long line 3 will be the first underground Metro line in Mumbai.
On the stretch, tunnel and ramp work is over, along with laying of tracks. Some civil work components, along with traction power apparatus, still remain.
Technical tests of eight compartments manufactured by an Andhra Pradesh-based company Shree City have been completed. It will be brought to Mumbai soon for the trial runs, the CM said in a statement.
