A woman was allegedly raped on her birthday in a five-star hotel in Mumbai after her acquaintance spiked her drink. She is now undergoing treatment at a hospital in the city.
A case under sections 328 and 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the accused has been registered. He is yet to be arrested.
In her complaint, the woman said the incident took place when they went to a five-star hotel in Mumbai’s Worli area to celebrate her birthday, according to a report by Hindustan Times.
The woman said she met the accused through a dating app and they chatted for over a month. On Monday, the accused organised a birthday party for the woman at a five-star hotel’s suite and asked her to come over there. After she reached there, the accused offered her a glass of wine, the woman said in her complaint.
The woman said she started feeling drowsy soon after, following which the accused sexually assaulted her.
“The woman started feeling drowsy after having wine, after which the accused allegedly sexually assaulted her,” police told HT.
The woman was rushed to a hospital after which she narrated the incident to her family. A case was then registered against the accused.
Police said efforts are on to arrest the accused.
