Mumbai clocks 3,672 fresh COVID cases, 79 more fatalities; positivity rate stands at 13% – Times Now

Mumbai: Amid stringent curbs, the country’s financial capital logged 3,672 fresh COVID-19 cases and 79 people succumbed to the deadly virus on Sunday. 

With this addition, the city’s infection tally now stands at 6,56,204, and a total of 13,330 deaths due to COVID-19 infections have been recorded so far. Currently, the city has at least 57,342 active patients. The recovery rate in the Maximum City is 89 per cent now.

According to the health bulletin, the overall growth rate of COVID-19 cases between April 25 and May 1 was 0.66 per cent, while the case doubling rate was 103 days.

A total of 28,636 people were subjected to tests in the city, 9,000 less than what was recorded on Friday. Despite the dip in testing, the positivity rate in Mumbai stands at 13 percent.

COVID cases in Maharashtra

56,647 people tested positive for the deadly virus in Maharashtra on Sunday. Amid sweeping restrictions in place, the cases dipped as the state saw 63,282 cases on Saturday.

669 people died due to the virus and the total COVID-19 tally has breached the 47 lakh mark with 47.22 lakh cases. 

Pune saw the highest numbers in the state with 4.621 new COVID-19 cases and nine more deaths in 24 hours span. Pimpri-Chinchwad saw 4,194 deaths and 53 people succumbed to the virus.

Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde in a bid to bring down the fatality rate held a meeting with doctors in Thane. He added that besides ramping up inoculation drive, the state is trying to normalise oxygen and life-saving drug supply amid a shortage.
