Mumbai: Sikh youth organisations launch call centre for free oxygen cylinders – Mumbai Mirror

Mumbai: Amid an acute shortage of medical-grade oxygen in the city, two Sikh youth congregations have launched a call centre providing free oxygen cylinders to those in need.

The initiative has been taken by members of the Malabar Hill Sevak Jattha and Mulund Sikh Youth to help with the oxygen crisis in the city. They have tied up with the Red Crescent Society, ANI reported.

Balvinder Singh, a volunteer, informed that the reports and prescriptions of the patient will be checked before giving the oxygen cylinder.

“Last year, we organised langar for three months. But this time, there is oxygen scarcity, so we connected with Red Crescent Society and started helping people,” he said.

“This a free of cost service, we take Rs 6000 per cylinder deposit from the public which is refundable. We check the report and prescription of patients before giving oxygen cylinder,” Singh added.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government on Tuesday floated global tenders for oxygen concentrators and liquid oxygen and gave bidders three days to quote their best prices.

Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said, “We have floated global tenders for 40,000 oxygen concentrators, 132 PSA plants, 25,000 metric tonnes liquid oxygen, 10 lakh Remdesivir vials, and around 15 oxygen storage tankers.”

The state government has also constituted an empowered three-member committee for this purpose.
