Mumbai Police to get gangster Ravi Pujari’s custody – Times of India

MUMBAI: In a major success for the Mumbai Police, a Bengaluru court on Saturday passed an order in it’s favour to take the custody of extradited gangster Ravi Pujari.
The Mumbai Police had been running pillar to post since Pujari was deported last February to get him custody. There are around 49 serious offences registered in Mumbai against him apart from Navi Mumbai and Thane.
SR Manikya, the city Civil and Session judge Bangalore also rejected Pujari’s application for supply of the extradition order by the extradition court of Senegal. The Mumbai Police had approached the extradition court of Senegal through the ministry of external affairs (MEA) to seek Pujari’s custody as last time his lawyer Dilraj Sequira had objected stating that while seeking his custody from Senegal, the Mumbai cases were not mentioned.
The MEA had sought a clarification from the Extradition court in Senegal in January this year. TOI was first to report about this in its edition dated Feb 5 titled Mumbai cops approach Senegal court for Ravi Pujari’s custody.
“I strongly objected to this as the Mumbai Police have not shown me the Extradition court’s order. It’s my fundamental right to get all documents which are relied on by the prosecution against me (Ravi Pujari). I am going to challenge this”, said Sequira.
Police said that they have mentioned in the Bangaluru court that they are seeking Pujari’s custody in the firing case of Hotel Gajalee in Vile Parle in which one hotel staff was seriously injured in 2016. The crime branch had arrested seven members of Pujari gang and had charged them under the stringent act of MCOCA.
Sources said that they will soon take his custody one after another in 10 serious offences registered against Pujari and his gang members. Firing on the partner of Deepa Bar and Restaurant Humayun Chandivala of 2005, murder of Chembur based builder Om Prakash Kukreja, killing of two employees of builder Sudhakar Shetty, attempt to murder film maker Mahesh Bhatt, Suresh Wadhwa, advocate Majeed Memon are few among serious cases pending on Pujari.
Apart from these there are more than two dozen cases of threats to Bollywood personalities, including Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Karan Johar, Rakesh Roshan, Karim Morani and an industrialis, said Milind Bharambe, joint commissioner of police (Crime).
A Mumbai Police team consisting of police inspector Ajay Sawant and assistant inspector Sunil Pawar are camping in Bangaluru and are likely to get Pujari’s custody by late Sunday night.
