MUMBAI: The BEST on Thursday inducted 26 new AC electric buses in its fleet. These buses will start plying over the next few days and will be deployed on short routes.
These buses are noiseless buses with zero pollution, said an official. The latest addition takes the strength of BEST’s fleet of e-buses to 72, six of which are owned by BEST while the rest are taken on rent (wet lease). The new buses are single-decker midi buses manufactured by Tata Motors, said BEST spokesperson Manoj Varade.
Another BEST official said that a significant part of funding comes from the Centre, but BEST pays a portion of the rent to the private agency which provides the vehicelalong with drivers and also maintains the buses.
