Active COVID-19 cases in Mumbai drop to 15,962, lowest in 5 months – Times Now

Mumbai: Mumbai saw a huge drop in active coronavirus cases on Friday – 15,962, lowest in the past five months after an increase in the number of recovered patients.

As many as 2,35,412 people, about 90 per cent of the total number of COVID-19 cases, have recovered from the infection in the city, with 205 patients being discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours.

Before Friday, the lowest number of active COVID-19 cases in Mumbai was recorded in the third week of May.

On Friday, Mumbai’s coronavirus tally increased to 2,62,476  after the city reported 792 fresh cases, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said. This was the seventh consecutive day when the city recorded less than 1,000 cases in a span of 24 hours.

A total of 22 fresh fatalities pushed the death toll due to the pandemic in the city to 10,396, the civic body said.

The average doubling rate of COVID-19 cases in the city was 157 days on October 29, but within eight days it has increased to 208 days, BMC said.

The average growth rate of COVID-19 cases has gone down to 0.33 per cent from 0.44 per cent on October 29, PTI reported.

Maharashtra also witnessed a huge drop in active coronavirus cases on Friday – 1,02,099,  lowest in nearly four months, after a sharp decline in the number of single-day fresh infections and rise in recoveries.

The number of active cases in the state climbed to 3,01,752 on September 17, highest since the first COVID-19 case was reported in the state in March.

Maharashtra, the worst-affected state in the country, first witnessed a drop in actives cases on October 14 when the state’s active case stood at 196,288.

Earlier, the state’s lowest active case count was 103,516 on July 12.
