NCB makes Rs 9-crore narcotics haul in raids in Mumbai, 4 arrested – Times of India

MUMBAI: As part of a series of raids carried out across the country, the Narcotics Control Bureau in Mumbai raided a godown in Boisar and another location in Andheri and seized narcotics worth Rs 9 crore.
Four people have been arrested in the case. Raids carried out in Jammu and Kashmir led to the seizure of around 55 kg of charas. One of the persons arrested, Farooq Sheikh, is a Byculla resident. The same group was earlier associated with trafficking of contraband in Mumbai, officials said.
In the raid at Andheri, the NCB seized mephedrone from one Pradeep Sahni, who was employed with a movie production house. Sahni, who was arrested, supplied mephedrone to several people in Andheri and Juhu, police said.
In the Boisar operation, a team led by NCB Mumbai’s zonal director Sameer Wankhede seized 1 kg of cocaine, 2 kgs of Phencyclidine (PCP) and 30 kg of mephedrone in all worth Rs 9 crore. PCP is a mind-altering drug that may lead to hallucinations. It is considered a dissociative drug, leading to a distortion of sights, colours, sounds, self and one’s environment.
The other two to be arrested were Mushtaq Ahmed Ansari (48) and Saurabh Yadav (35), both residents of Vasai. Saurabh, a drug peddler, sold the contraband to Mushtaq Ansari, who in turn supplied it to celebrities in Andheri, Lokhandwala, Oshiwara and Bandra, NCB officials said.
Yadav told the NCB officials that he purchased drugs from one Rakesh Khandivadekar alias Rocky and his brother Atul, who were arrested in March by the DRI with 483 kg of ephedrine worth Rs 89 lakh. Before their arrest, they managed to shift some of the contraband to Yadav’s godown. NCB is now looking for the two brothers who procured bail two months ago and are on the run.
Sources said the tip-off came from two of the 18 drug peddlers arrested by NCB as part of its probe into the drug procurement for actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who died by suicide. “Two of them disclosed about the Boisar godown,” officials said.
