MUMBAI: An ambulance carrying a body for post-mortem from Dombivli to JJ hospital accidentally fell off Tembe bridge, near Amar Mahal in Chembur, late on Thursday evening. The driver and his assistant were trapped inside the vehicle with the body for more than an hour.
Tilak Nagar police and fire brigade officials rescued the two later.
“As the vehicle is stuck at a height, we have called for a crane, which is expected in sometime. The driver and assistant were rescued with help from members of the public and seemed safe,” said an officer.
The decomposed body was of a murder victim but there were no police escorts. Manpada police said Suresh Pal was murdered and two persons were arrested, while one more was wanted.
