Mumbai: A petition has been filed in Bombay High Court seeking order to restrain print and electronic media from further reporting on Sushant Singh Rajput death case.

Several news channels have proceeded to already convict the accused who are named in the FIR and also making insinuations against high-ranking officers of the Mumbai Police and the ministers of the state without completion of investigation in the matter, the PIL stated.

The petition has been filed by three Mumbai-based activists.

Earlier, actor Rhea Chakraborty, accused of abetting Sushant’s suicide, had filed a plea in the Supreme Court complaining about “unfair media trial” and “attempts to pronounce her guilty for the death of the actor”.

The petition was filed a day after Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Wednesday filed a criminal case against Rhea and others to probe in the alleged drugs-related matter in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case.

The Enforcement Directorate, which is probing a money laundering angle into Sushant’s death case, has obtained “deleted WhatsApp messages”. The deleted messages allegedly indicate dealings in banned drugs and chats about the procurement and consumption of drugs.

An FIR was filed by the late actor’s father KK Singh against actor Rhea Chakraborty, her family members and others in Bihar on July 28. Rhea’s parents Indrajit Chakraborty and Sandhya Chakraborty, brother Showik Chakraborty, and common friends Samuel Miranda and Shruti Modi were named in the FIR.

Bihar Police booked Rhea and five others under IPC Section 306 (Abetment of suicide), Sec 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint), Sec 342 (Punishment for wrongful confinement), Sec 380 (Theft in dwelling house), Sec 406 (Punishment for criminal breach of trust), and Sec 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property).

After much political tussle between Bihar and Maharashtra governments, the Supreme Court earlier this month ordered the CBI to investigate the sensational case.

Sushant was found dead in his Bandra flat in Mumbai on June 14.
