Mumbai unlock 1.0 news: Today’s updates – Times of India

As the Central and state governments allow phase-wise relaxation in curbs to get the life up and running again following over two months of lockdown to prevent the spread of Covid-19, we bring you the latest updates from Mumbai.

The total number of positive cases in the country now stands at 3,54,065 including 1,55,227 active cases, 1,86,935 cured/discharged/migrated and 11,903 deaths: Union ministry of health and family welfare. *In a major embarrassment for the Uddhav Thackeray-led government, as many as 1,328 deaths had not been added to the state’s Covid-19 toll so far, a data reconciliation exercise by the state public health department has found. Of these unaccounted for deaths, 862 were from Mumbai.
*The BMC, which started marking containment zones and sealing buildings from March due to the Covid-19 outbreak, has released 44% of these structures so far. The civic body had sealed 8,912 buildings or floors within these structures, of which it has released 3,953. Nearly eight lakh residents of released buildings have completed their 14-day quarantine.
*As suburban trains resumed for essential service staff on Monday, three Western Railway (WR) staff, including two at the forefront of Shramik train operations, died of Covid-19 in the past 11 days.
*Around 75,000 essential services workers took suburban trains on Tuesday, up 25% from around 60,000 (30,000 each on WR and CR) on Monday when the services resumed. A total of 362 services were operated on all corridors with the capacity to carry 1.25 lakh passengers ensuring social distancing.
*Finding critical care beds for Covid patients with oxygen saturation (SPO2) levels between 85 and 90 is emerging as a challenge in the city. With dedicated hospitals refusing patients above 85 SPO2 levels and jumbo facilities not taking in the ones below 92-93, volunteers at several ward-level war rooms are struggling to get beds for this subset.
