Covid-19: Mumbai’s Wockhardt Hospital declared a containment zone – Livemint

“We have declared Wockhardt Hospital as a containment zone and have removed 30 doctors and nurses from there. We have shifted these covid-19 suspected cases to the Seven Hills Hospital in Mumbai, where further tests will be carried out,” said Vijay Khabale-Patil, chief public relations officer at BMC, refusing any more details.

As of 5 April, Maharashtra had 748 covid-19 cases, of which 458 patients were from Mumbai and 100 were from Pune. There have been 45 deaths in the state so far.

Majority of the deceased did not have any international travel history and they suffered from pre-existing health conditions, according to the state health department.

Maharashtra has adopted the Centre’s “cluster containment action plan” to target coronavirus hospots in the state.

Under the plan, 519 teams are working in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation area and 439 teams in Pune Municipal Corporation area to curb the spread of covid-19. Another 210 teams have been conducting house-to-house surveillance in the Nagpur corporation area and 196 teams have been deployed in Navi Mumbai area. There were 3,078 teams working across the state, with over 10 lakh people under surveillance.

Mint reported on 2 April that Mumbai has identified as many as 77 containment zones to curb the spread of the pandemic, with the areas sealed off.

The measure was implemented after authorities discovered that a religious gathering in early March in Delhi’s Nizamuddin area triggered a rash of cases across India. Other hotpsots in the country include Noida, Mysuru, Bengaluru, Pune, Kerala, and Rajasthan’s Bhilwara.

State governments have been trying to identify all the contacts of those who attended the Nizamuddin event. In Maharashtra, seven such people have been traced, of which five in Pimpri-Chinchwad have tested positive for the disease, according to data from the state health department.
