Mumbai: Househelp stole jewellery worth Rs 1.5 crore over four months – Times of India

MUMBAI: The police arrested eight people, including two househelp, of a bullion trader for stealing gold ornaments worth Rs 1.5 crore from his Imperial Tower flat in Tardeo.
The two employees of the bullion trader, Narsaram Devasi (20) and his maternal uncle, Deeparam, (35) along with six others have been sent to police custody. Other accused include a few jewellers who had purchsaed the stolen jewellery. The theft took place over a period of three to four months before the complaint was lodged. Police sources said that the complainant had family-like relations with the caretakers and their relatives had been working with the complainant for more than three decades.
Devasi and his maternal uncle worked as househelp at the trader’s house. Police said Devasi had got chance and stole gold coins. He then continued stealing other jewellery. The crime came to light when a family member was going through the cupboard. During sustained interrogation, Devasi and his uncle admitted their crime. Booty worth Rs 55 lakh was recovered.
