Mumbai: Armed men board train, attack, rob passengers – Times of India

MUMBAI: Three men brandishing guns and knives robbed passengers travelling in the rear general coach of Mahanagri Express between Kalyan and Kasara stations early Friday. The gang also roughed up some of the passengers. Escorting RPF personnel in the train were alerted at Igatpuri much after the robbers had jumped off. Around six passengers were robbed of cash and phones collectively worth Rs 30,000.
The incident occurred between 2.30 and 3 am. “Some of us were awake. I was carrying around Rs 3,000 on me,” said Anup Kumar Lalwani (25) who was among those looted. Lalwani was travelling from Mumbai to Hoshangabad in MP where he lives. “The robbers were already on the train. One of them pointed a gun at my head and snatched Rs 1,000 from me. He wanted to steal my mobile but I resisted,” said Lalwani. The robbers spoke in Marathi and one of them was dressed in white. “They pointed knives at other passengers and roughed up some of them. But nobody raised an alarm as we were concerned they would stab us or fire a shot,” Lalwani added.
“The robbers went about systematically snatching mobilephones and cash. They were in the coach for over 40 minutes. When the train was at Kasara and was moving at a high speed, the trio jumped off,” said a witness.
At Igatpuri, when RPF personnel reached the coach, the passengers told them about being robbed. “The RPF asked us if we wanted to file charges or not. They were very discouraging. I filled up a complaint form but it wasn’t taken,” said Lalwani. Passengers have demanded that an FIR be lodged by GRP.
