Heavy rain lashes Mumbai, Thane; no traffic disruptions – Times of India

MUMBAI: Many parts of Mumbai and its adjoining areas like Thane and Navi Mumbai witnessed significant rains on Thursday afternoon. No serious incidents were reported.
There were no traffic disturbances reported in the city and BMC has not diverted any route due to waterlogging.

BMC officials stated that that they didn’t receive any waterlogging complaint and rainwater in low-lying areas — roads receding.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that heavy rains were likely to continue at isolated places.
KS Hosalikar, deputy director-general (western region) of IMD said that the reason for the rains picking pace was owing to a circulation over north Konkan and its neighborhood.
“Forecast is for heavy rains in Mumbai, Thane and very heavy rainfall at isolated places in south Konkan. Mumbai, Thane already recorded more than 40mm in last five hours,” said Hosalikar.
While on Thursday morning the rains were not very heavy they picked pace only post noon.
The city has not witnessed a heavy and continuous rain spell since its onset was declared on June 14.
