BCCI orders Pant to be airlifted to Mumbai | Cricbuzz.com – Cricbuzz – Cricbuzz

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to airlift an injured Rishabh Pant from Derhadun. The decision was taken by the BCCI secretary Jay Shah in a review meeting on Wednesday (January 4) with the board’s medical team over the health situation of Pant, who miraculously escaped from a car accident recently.

The decision was arrived at after it was certified by the BCCI and doctors of Max Hospital in Derhadun, where the 25-year-old is convalescing from different injuries sustained from the road accident on the Delhi-Derhadun Highway on December 30. Pant will be shifted to Mumbai on Wednesday itself.

Shah has asked the Board officials to send an air-ambulance by which Pant will be moved to Mumbai for treatment of his ligament tear on his right knee. As previously reported by Cricbuzz, Pant is looking at a long period of inaction from the game and those who are following his situation say that it could take at least six months.

The next course of treatment will be decided by the doctors of Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. As the report is being filed, Cricbuzz understands that a special Air Ambulance is being organised for transporting Pant to Mumbai.

As per the BCCI medical team, Pant suffered two cuts on his forehead, injury on his right wrist, ankle, toe and abrasion injuries on his back besides the ligament tear on his right knee in the near fatal accident. Immediately after the mishap, Shah had formed a medical team which had advised the Derhadun hospital medical staff to refrain from treating his ligament tear. The BCCI had taken the responsibility upon itself to treat the ailment which will now be done in Mumbai.

A sense of urgency has been shown by the BCCI towards Pant, a Grade A cricketer in the BCCI centrally-contracted player list, besides being a proven match-winner for the Indian side. The BCCI has been wanting to move him to Mumbai at the earliest convenient time and the decision was taken on Wednesday after a review meeting held under Shah where it was felt that Pant is in a position to be shifted.

The BCCI, meanwhile, confirmed that Pant will be brought to Mumbai in an air ambulance and admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute. He will be under the direct supervision of Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, Head — the Centre for Sports Medicine, and Director — Arthroscopy & Shoulder Service at the hospital.

Pant will undergo surgery and subsequent procedures for ligament tear and will continue to be monitored by the BCCI Medical Team throughout the period of his recovery and rehabilitation. “The Board will make every effort to aid and expedite the recovery process of Rishabh and will provide him with all the support he needs during this period,” the BCCI said in a statement.
