Two Nigerian nationals and four other people were detained. Early on Sunday, the Mumbai police’s anti-narcotics unit detained three people, among them a Nigerian national, and confiscated 610 grammes of the illegal drug mephedrone, better known as MD, valued Rs 1.22 crore.
The network was thought to be delivering drugs to Mumbai for use in illicit celebrations around the New Year parties.
The Mumbai crime branch took action against around 20 people who were out on bail in drug-related crimes before New Year’s Eve in the city by either detaining them for 24 hours or asking the court for permission to extern them for a few days.
According to the officials, the decision was made with the increased demand for drugs on New Year’s Eve in mind.
The police have stated that they will now employ the same technique against alleged drug dealers who are free on bail during significant events like New Year where the supply of drugs typically increases.
