Mumbai News Highlights: Maharashtra records 18 Covid-19 cases, no death – The Indian Express

Mumbai news Updates, 30 December 2022:  Maharashtra on Friday reported 18 Covid-19 cases, which took the tally in the state to 81,36,633, while the death toll stood unchanged at 1,48,417, a health official said. The addition to the tally was lower than the 27 cases reported on Thursday, which had also seen a death, he pointed out, news agency PTI reported. Mumbai led with eight cases, followed by six in Pune circle, two in Aurangabad circle and one each in Nashik and Nagpur circles. The recovery count increased by 14 in the last 24 hours to touch 79,88,044, leaving the state with an active caseload of 172, he said.

Meanwhile, More than 11,500 personnel to be deployed at key locations across Mumbai on New Year’s Eve. Areas such as the Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Girgaum Chowpatty, Juhu beach, Bandstand in suburban Bandra generally see large crowds of tourists. As against the past two years, this year the police will also be using breathalysers in order to curb drunk driving.

Following rising number of accidents on the 520-km stretch between Shirdi and Nagpur of the newly commissioned Samruddhi Mahamarg, officials from the Regional Transport Office (RTO) have decided to monitor vehicles at entry/exit points of the expressway. “Periodic vehicle checks have been done or not. Whether the vehicle is in good condition among others. Also, vehicles having reflective tapes or not, as it helps to prevent accidents many times,” said Vivek Bhimanwar (IAS), state Transport Commissioner.
