Mumbai New Year guide: Firecrackers to traffic, check what is allowed and what not – Times Now

Mumbai: India’s financial capital is all set to have a blast on New Year’s eve this time. After two years of covid restrictions, the celebration this year will be on its full scale. Hundreds of events, parties and night gatherings are planned in the city to bid farewell to 2022 and welcome 2023.

  • The civic authorities or city police have not placed any restrictions on public gatherings this year. People are allowed to throng the streets and can enjoy New Year night on key hotspots like the Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Girgaum Chowpatty, Juhu Beach and Worli Sea Link.

  • Mumbaikars can enjoy parties throughout the night this year. Though the terrace parties are allowed till 12:30 am, indoor parties can continue till 5 am on New Year’s Eve.
  • If open-air parties shall have to obtain a no-objection certificate from the society as well as permission from the local police station.
  • If commercial party hosts are playing copyrighted music, they shall obtain the rights to play it from the copyright owner. The Bombay High Court recently restrained the hotels, pubs, bars, clubs and other commercial establishments from using copyrighted music of Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL) India which holds rights to more than 15 lakh foreign and 8 lakh Indian songs. Heavy security deployment is planned for the city on December 31 and January 1. Around 11000 cops and 1500 officers under 7 assistant commissioners, and 25 deputy commissioners will be deployed in the city. Besides, an SRPF team, 3 squads of Riot Control Police and 15 squads of Quick Response Team will also be on the streets.
