Maharashtra Karnataka Border Dispute Live Updates: A special CBI court on Tuesday permitted ICICI Bank MD and CEO Chanda Kochhar, her husband Deepak Kocchar and Videocon Group Chairman Venugopal Dhoot to have home cooked food and medicines while in custody. The court has also allowed the three to use a chair, bed, mattress, pillow, towel, blanket, bedsheet at their cost while in CBI custody. The three were remanded to CBI’s custody till Wednesday. Their lawyers had argued that they are senior citizens and were made to sleep on the floor of the police lock-up where it was very cold and hence had sought a mattress and other items.

The Kochhars have moved the Bombay High Court claiming that they were arrested “illegally” by the CBI in connection with a case related to alleged irregularities in loans provided to Venugopal Dhoot’s Videocon Group.  The petitioners have also sought directions from the High Court to quash and set aside the remand order.

In other news, the Maharashtra Assembly and Legislative Council Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution expressing solidarity with those living in the contentious boundary region with Karnataka. The resolution, tabled by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, condemned the Karnataka administration for “oppressing and terrorising the Marathi population” and also for its “anti-Marathi stand in border areas.” Reiterating its claim that there were 865 Marathi-speaking villages in Karnataka, including Belagavi, Karwar Bhalki and Bidar, the Maharashtra government in its resolution asserted that it would stand behind the Marathi people in border areas and ensure victory in the legal fight in Supreme Court so that these areas become a part of Maharashtra.
