IIT-Bombay cancels conference at eleventh hour – Hindustan Times

Mumbai: A conference organised by The Department of Humanities and social sciences, IIT-Bombay, was cancelled by its director “due to unavoidable circumstances.” The IIT administration received heavy criticism on social media.

The two-day conference – which was organised on December 12 and 13 – aimed to bring together scholars engaged in identifying and examining the histories of the cultural practices of the political left in modern India.

All speakers and dignitaries were invited to participate in this conference. After all these preparations, the organiser sent an email to everyone that the conference was cancelled. In this email organiser Paulomi Chakraborty, Ratheesh Radhakrishnan, and Sharmistha Saha said, “Following the directive from the IIT Bombay director that the conference on the ‘Cultures of the Political Left in Modern India’ cannot be held due to unavoidable circumstances, we are forced to cancel the event.”
