In a tragic incident, a 16-year-old girl lost her life while playing hide-and-seek in a lift accident in Mumbai. The unfortunate incident happened in the Mankhurd area, when Reshma Kharavi stuck her head in a small opening of a lift door.
As per reports, the teenager has come to her grandmother’s house in New Sai Dham Society, a seven-storey building in Mankhurd, Mumbai. The mishap occured when she was playing hide and seek with her brothers and cousins. Reshma was on the fifth floor, in her bid to find her brothers, she put her head into the small opening on the elevator door.
Unfortunately, the lift — which was made operational just five days ago — descended and hit her on her head, leading to deadly head injuries. Reshma’s cousin Vishal, 12, who was hiding at the above floor came to see after hearing an unusual sound. He was shocked to find Reshma trapped inside the lift and ran home to seek help. The family then rushed to her rescue but the lift door was found to be jammed and it took them almost 15 minutes to unhinge it.
She was immediately rushed to Shatabdi hospital in Govandi where she died.
The teen’s family have accused the housing society’s officials of negligence, saying that they did nothing despite being asked to cover the opening. The family has registered a first information report (FIR) against the society officials. As per reports, Mumbai police have arrested the housing society’s chairman and secretary in connection with the case.
Recently, a 44-year-old also lost his life in a lift accident. A man died and his son got injured after a lift of a building fell down in Delhi’s Jaitpur area.
The police later found out that the lift was damaged and said that the accident occurred due to a sudden fault in machinery.
