Mumbai Maharashtra today News Highlights:  The Supreme Court allowed Election Commission of India to decide which faction between Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde be recognised as the ‘real’ Shiv Sena party and allotment of the bow and arrow symbol. The apex court declined to stay the proceedings before the Election Commission of India on Shinde group’s claim for recognition as ‘real’ Shiv Sena.

Police have arrested four activists of the Popular Front of India (PFI) from different locations in Maharashtra’s Thane district for alleged anti-national activities, an official said on Tuesday. The arrests were made on Monday night in a joint operation carried out in the district by local police and crime branch officials, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Laxmikant Patil said. Two of the activists were nabbed from Mumbra and one each from Kalyan and Bhiwandi towns, he said without elaborating.

The Supreme Court collegium led by Chief Justice of India U U Lalit, in its meeting held on September 26, recommended the elevation of Justice Dipankar Datta, Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, as a Supreme Court judge. Justice Datta, who was a senior judge at the Calcutta High Court, was appointed as the Bombay High Court Chief Justice on April 28, 2020. He will be elevated to the apex court after the central government clears his appointment and issues a notification in this regard.
