Mumbai, Maharashtra News Live Updates (August 24): A scuffle broke out between NCP MLC Amol Mitkari and rebel Shiv Sena camp MLA Mahesh Shinde outside the State assembly as both the Shinde BJP camp and MVA MLAs raised slogans against each other. “All the MVA MLAs and leaders were protesting peacefully on the stairs leading to the assembly. The ruling party members also raised slogans against us. However a section of the ruling MLAs especially Mahesh Shinde abused us and tried to assault us. We have registered our protest to the CM,” NCP MLC Amol Mitkari said. Meanwhile, the Shinde camp’s whip Bharat Gogawale accused the MVA leaders of trying to “grab attention”.
In Calendar year 2021, when hospitals across India were battling the delta wave of Covid-19, Maharashtra recorded a significant 20.47 per cent increase in all-cause deaths to 9.74 lakh as compared to the previous year. This was over and above the 16.57 per cent rise in all-cause deaths in calendar year 2020. Maharashtra accounted for almost 10 per cent of all-cause deaths across India in 2020.
A man set himself on fire outside the Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai on Tuesday over an unresolved property dispute with his brother, the police said. He reportedly sustained 15-20 per cent burn injuries and is conscious now. NCP leader Eknath Khadse demanded that all work for the day be set aside in the Legislative Council to discuss the matter. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, meanwhile, informed the Council that orders have been given to probe the dispute and look into administrative negligence, if any.
