Mumbai News, Mumbai Maharashtra News Live Updates, 17 August 2022:  A day after recording 322 Covid19 cases, Mumbai recorded 975 new infections on Wednesday. City also recorded 850 recoveries.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has ordered a CBI probe into the death of former MLC Vinayak Mete. The former MLC, who was on his way to Mumbai from Beed to meet Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to discuss issues concerning the Maratha community, died in a road accident on the Mumbai-Pune expressway on Sunday morning.

In other news, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has been appointed the Leader of the House in the state Legislative Council, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced on Wednesday. Shinde made the announcement as he introduced newly-inducted members of his Cabinet to the Upper House on the first day of the monsoon session of the state legislature. Just before the monsoon session of the Maharashtra legislature began on Wednesday, the opposition parties raised slogans against the Eknath Shinde-led state government on the steps of the Vidhan Bhavan.
