MUMBAI: The Dharavi police on Sunday arrested two more accused in the murder case of a 26-year-old local Kabbadi player after hundreds of locals gathered outside the police station protesting and demanding more arrests. Investigators had on Saturday arrested the prime accused, Mallesh Chitankadi (32) on murder charge.
Police said that on Friday night they received information that an injured man was lying unconscious, profusely bleeding, at 90 feet road at Dharavi. Police rushed the injured man, Vimalraj Nadar, to Sion hospital where he was declared dead for multiple blunt injuries on his head. Nadar worked as a technician in a cable company.
While scanning the CCTV footage, police found Chitankadi, who was drunk, had attacked Nadar with a cricket stump several times, leading to his death. Chitankadi was arrested.
During inquiries it transpired that the deceased was a kabaddi player and had an ego issue with the accused over previous enmity.
The deceased’s family refused to claim the body, demanding the arrest. They claimed the body only on Sunday afternoon after the police arrested two more accused _Sainath Waghmare (30) and Vikas Chaudhary (28). Police also added section 120B (criminal conspiracy) in the murder case. The deceased’s relatives claimed that the police had not arrested other accused and gathered outside the police station on Sunday. Additional police forces were also called in to control the bandobast.
